Lewis carroll was remarkably modest about his masterpiece. “the heroine spends an hour underground, and meets various birds, beasts, etc (no fairies), endowed with speech,” he wrote in punch. “the whole thing is a dream, but that i don’t want revealed till the end. ”it is now one-and-a-half centuries since alice first made that journey – and carroll’s humble tale has inspired countless films, paintings, and even a ballet. What is less well known is the way it shaped our understanding of the brain. Not just freudian psychology and analysis, but modern neuroscience.

I taped butcher paper to the walls and then painted the flower scenes. I also cut out leaves from cardboard, painted them and hot glued and taped them to the walls. The flowers i used cardboard for the stems, the leaves were posterboard as well as the petals along with tissue paper. I used fishing line to secure those to make them stand up. The mushroom was cardboard with tissue paper glued to it to give it texture. The caterpillar was sewn and stuffed with the face being made with cardboard. Just about everything was made with cardboard, tissue paper, butcher paper, paint, glue and hot glue.

I had the opportunity to help my sister with her daughter's 10th bday party & it was a lot of fun. My sister wanted to create a garden in her entryway & we were totally going to make larger-than-life paper mache mushrooms, but we just couldn't fit in the time to make them. *sigh*  but we did create this flower garden using tissue paper & paper flowers.
