Ferris is a senior in a high school in suburban chicago, illinois, and towards the end of the school year he decides to fake sickness so that he can stay home from school. His parents believe him when he says he is sick but his sister jeanie smells a rat because ferris has pulled this routine so many times before. Ferris persuades his girlfriend sloane (mia sara) and his gloomy, pessimistic best friend cameron (alan ruck) to spend the day in chicago as a "final fling" before they graduate high school and head of for different colleges. He sets up a complicated system in his bedroom that consists of a stereo system, a trophy and a mannequin just in case anyone should decide to come to the house and check on him. Then he sets about persuading cameron to let them use his father's beautifully-restored 1961 ferrari 250 gt to pick sloane up from school, and he also convinces cameron to call the school and impersonate sloane's father, telling them to release sloane from school immediately because of the death of her grandmother.

Streaming on netflix probably my son’s favorite movie of the entire bunch, ferris bueller still holds up remarkably well 34 years after its 1986 release. My son loves to rag on ’80s movies for their outdated technology, but even the glacier aged answering machine in ferris’ house didn’t bother him that much because it’s so masterfully used in the story. Borrowing the ferrari, the day game at wrigley field, the von steuben day parade scene, the conniving principal, the feeling that your parents are clueless. It all still speaks to a teen in 2020.

The group plays high school students who are all serving saturday detention under the supervision of the assistant principal (paul gleason). While they hold different roles within their student body — "a brain, and an athlete, and a basket case, a princess, and a criminal"—over the course of the day, they discover they have more in common than they could have ever realized. When simple minds' "don't you (forget about me)" begins playing at the end of the movie, you'll be pumping your first right along with the fading character onscreen.
Cameron In Bed / Ferris Goes Hawaiian
The next name on the list is frye. This time, nobody interrupts the teacher's monotonous repetitions of cameron's last name. Unlike ferris, cameron is actually sick in bed, as viewers see when the shot cuts from the teacher to the frye house. The sound of the teacher repeating his last name continues as the audience gets a look at the sleek house, then at cameron's bedroom, and finally at him in his bed.
In the film, ferris is in bed pretending to be sick, so his parents tom and katie bueller let him stay home. After his younger sister , and parents leave the house, ferris gets out of bed, and breaks the fourth wall explaining that he has been absent nine times playing hooky. He explains tips to use to make parents believe that he is sick. He gets ready to call his sick friend cameron , and they play a phone call prank on mr. Rooney using the 'dead grandmother excuse' to get sloane peterson checked out of school. Ferris then takes cameron father's car, and they pick up sloane.
Right from the beginning of the movie, ferris frames his latest adventure as an attempt to cheer cameron up, who seems to be bedbound from some combination of hypochondria and actual depression. This seems like a kind thing to do, but we soon learn it’s actually got nothing to do with cameron, and he’s mostly just there because ferris needs someone who can do a convincing impression.

It's been nearly 30 years today, since ferris bueller took the day off, but kids (and adults) everywhere still dream of ditching school (or work) with the same panache as our favorite class-cutter extraordinaire. Unless you've been living under a rock, you've seen the movie at least a dozen times and can repeat every single line.
synopsis[ edit ] though based on the film, the series was not a canon continuation; rather it was set up to portray itself as being the "real life" situations upon which the film was loosely based. In the pilot episode, ferris (schlatter) refers to the film and expresses his displeasure at matthew broderick portraying him, even going as far as destroying a life-size cardboard cutout of broderick with a chainsaw. However no further references to the film within the series' continuity would be made after this. As in the film, the series focused on ferris bueller and his high school experiences at ocean park high, including dealing with his best friend cameron ( brandon douglas ), love interest sloan ( ami dolenz ), and sister jeannie ( jennifer aniston ).
Edie mcclurg is famous for playing roles like principal rooney's secretary in the 1986 film "ferris bueller's day off" and mrs. Poole in the '80s tv show "the hogan family. " guess what she looks like now !.
Lots of good movies have been adapted into crummy tv shows. One of my white whales has been the ferris bueller tv show; it was one of those things i saw once on tv in 1990 and then never again (it was canceled 13 episodes in, and most people—myself included—preferred the similar-but-better parker lewis can't lose). Although john hughes had nothing to do with the show, it did feature jennifer aniston as jeannie, the excellent richard riehle as principal rooney, and charlie schlatter (who went on to do a ton of voiceover work ) as ferris.
By luckyotter one of my favorite 1980s movies (which i have probably watched at least 50 times, because it’s always on tv) is john hughes’ humorous 1986 study of teenage narcissist ferris bueller (matthew broderick) and his plot to gallivant about chicagoland with his girlfriend and his nervous, codependent friend cameron in hopes of getting him to loosen up and live a little.
