You’ve seen the movies. You’ve read the books. Think you know “the hunger games”? you’re going to have to step into the arena and prove it. Here’s some advice: stay more.

Which district are you from?

The country of panem itself is smaller geographically than north america today. Characters in the story refer to the loss of large areas of land across the world which were made uninhabitable by rising sea levels. The word panem is the latin word for 'bread', and as the country's name was derived from the latin saying panem et circenses, meaning ' bread and circuses ', a phrase attributed to the roman poet juvenal , referring to the use of entertainment and plentiful food to distract citizens into giving up their freedoms and political power. Panem consists of a capital city, called simply 'the capitol', located in the rocky mountains , which is surrounded by twelve outlying numbered districts, with a thirteenth district having been destroyed prior to the novels' setting.

13 is unlucky : district 13 is the odd district out, especially after it got destroyed by the capitol prior to the events of the series. Or so katniss and most of the country has been told. A portion of the district has been quietly surviving underground, having enough nuclear weapons to keep itself and the capital locked into an uneasy truce out of fear of a nuclear war. Still, they're cut off from most of the world.

After the district 12 team, including effie, the stylists, and haymitch, is introduced, katniss is raised up to the stage. District 5: Electricity, Or: They've Got The Power

Share district 5 is one of the 16 districts of panem ruled over by the capitol. District 5 is responsible for generating the power of the entire nation, and thus could be considered the true heart of panem. They produce energy in many ways, including hydroelectricity, solar electricity, and steam energy.

District 7: Lumber, Or: They've Got Wood

District 2:masonry panem would be nothing without district 2's superb stonework. It builds and fortifies out cities, and it's citizens are known individually for their strength. District 3: technology panem is one of the most advanced nations in mankind's history, thanks to the efforts of district 3. It's computers keep us all connected, and its electronic gadgets keep us all entertained.

Let the games begin

Author's note: there was a small hiatus after i finished one fanfic and started another, where i came up with this idea. It's been brewing in my head for quite some time now, and it will be updated periodically like most of my other current works. This is simply a collection of short stories about the past games. Contrary to many of my other works, the focus of this oneshot collection is primarily the games and associated events rather than the characters. However, a partner project in the works called "victors: before and after the games" will take these victor characters (as well as some of their allies and adversaries) and flesh them out much more. This installment is more just explaining the events of the games. Otherwise this thing would likely be 3-4 times its current (and already formidable) length.

What does this mean for me? you will always be able to play your favorite games on kongregate. Summary it’s a mentor’s job to bring their tribute home in one piece. Success is rare, but it doesn’t end with the arena. Guiding a new victor through the fallout of the games is paramount, even if it requires reliving your own worst memories. How many districts are in Panem?

District 0 is one of the 16 districts of panem ruled over by the capitol. Its location is set in alaska. District 0 provides research to the capitol with focus on astrology and meteorology and it's citizens are known to be rather intelligent. District 0 is a rather cold district and the entire district is covered in snow.

Panem is a totalitarian society, modelled somewhat on ancient rome , and is a police state in which the districts are subservient to the capitol. The districts provide resources to the capitol in exchange for protection by – and from – the capitol's army of "peacekeepers". Read the book with my son and we watched the movie together. We were a little disappointed in how the movie did not follow the book. More haymitch. Why yellow hair? not enough rue--barely shows any of her backstory (e. G. , healing katniss' wounds). Glad cato died without being chewed apart slowly for three days (this earns a star); dogs looked nothing like the book suggested (minus one star). No rain--one of the main parts of the story. Nothing like the book between peeta and kitness' "love. " why didn't the tracker jacker scene just follow the book? should have rented like my son suggested; unfortunately, regretfully bought. If we hadn't read the book, it would probably get another half-star.

In shirley jackson's "the lottery" (1948), regarded as one of the most famous short stories in american literature, someone in a small rural town is selected by lottery to engage in the center of a yearly ritual which will cleanse the town of its sins.
