The idea of being a ‘scarer’ seems relatively ethically problematic. Existing just to inflict crippling fear into a child? strange.
What seems even stranger is how the monsters pull off such a large-scale global operation. Related: 10 pixar questions we want answered
time travel, it seems. Or just errors in continuity. When we are being shown all of the different monsters getting up to their various tasks, we simultaneously see daytime in paris and hawaii, as well as night-time in florida and nepal. This doesn’t match up at all.
By 2000, pixar was doing well enough that steve jobs finally—finally—agreed to let the company move from its then-shoddy offices in a questionable neighborhood to a brand new production facility.
Taking advice from old disney hands, who remembered the way that an earlier change in production facilities had led to less communication and creativity between artists, pixar created a large, open space that would, the company hoped, encourage conversation and collaboration. And just in time—pixar had new projects in the works that presented new technical challenges, including animating individual strands of fur and creating a new underwater world. No longer content with studying fantastic parts of the regular world, pixar was now ready to create an entirely new world of its own, inhabited by monsters. Friendly monsters, at that.
It’s been 12 years since pixar introduced us to the loveable one-eyed blob mike wazowski and his gigantic furry scare partner in monsters, inc.
, one james p. “sulley†sullivan. But instead of a “where are they now?†sequel, monsters university travels back in time to tell the tale of how these two unlikely friends ended up in the scare business to begin with.
Yup, the fantasy caper monsters inc, which explores how a company of monsters generate electricity from the screams of human children, celebrates its 15th anniversary today. Yes, fifteen yearsfeeling old? because i sure do now! heart-warming, inventive and featuring one of the funniest ever sequences in an animated movie (see above!) monsters inc. Proved to be so popular that pixar were bound to cash in on it. And they did so several years ago, producing a prequel, which charted the early friendship of the original monster protagonists mike wazowski (billy crystal) and james p. Sullivan (john goodman).
Set in the wondrous world of monstropolis, our heroes mike and sulley work for the monsters, inc. Company that takes the screams from sleeping kids and recycles them for energy to power the big city. James p sullivan (john goodman) is the city’s number one scarer, his only close rival being the devious randall (a simply slimy steve buscemi). The monsters have an endless collection of bedroom doors through which they are able to travel between their world and ours that allows monsters like sulley and randall to sneak in, scare the kids and make a quick exit. Things look good for randall when sulley accidentally lets a little girl from the real world into monstropolis, causing panic within the community, as legend has it that a touch from a human child is fatal to any monsters! sulley finds the kid too adorable to dispose of, and tries with his friend mike (billy crystal) to return her to the real world. However, randall has discovered the kid, and the longer she stays in their world, the better his chances remain that sulley will be found out and fired. Soon mike and sulley find themselves hiding little boo, as they name her, from an array of dangers in monstropolis, not least a band of crazy exterminators and some surprising and unexpected twists and turns! all this leads to the amazing attempt to get boo back through her own door – a door that resides in the absolutely huge warehouse storage of monsters inc….
“mike wazowski and james p. Sullivan are an inseparable pair, but that wasn’t always the case. From the moment these two mismatched monsters met they couldn’t stand each other. Monsters university unlocks the door to how mike and sulley overcame their differences and became the best of friends. â€are you looking forward to the new monsters inc? lets us know your thoughts, comment below.
Source: the playlist though last april we got confirmation that a sequel to pixar's spectacular monsters inc. Was on the way for release in 2012 , we've yet to hear any details on the potential story. Where would monstropolis be since converting to laugh power in 2001? well, it turns out we may not find out since the playlist stumbled on some info at the french site disney plaza central which mentions that the follow-up will actually be a prequel following james p. "sulley" sullivan (john goodman) and mike wazowski (billy crystal) during their days at the university of fear. Apparently their college days first saw them as enemies before they became friends.
Because children have begun to like monsters, the company had fallen on hard times, and screams are becoming increasingly difficult to obtain in large amounts. At the risk of an energy crisis, the company's ceo henry j. Waternoose seeks out new, borderline-criminal means by which to obtain screams, including the kidnapping of children from the human world. His scheme is exposed by mike wazowski and james p. Sullivan , who bring waternoose to justice. The company is temporarily closed down following the arrest of its ceo. However, after sulley discovers that laughter produces more power than screams, the company reopens under sulley's new management. Following this, the employees make children laugh now, though it is shown in monsters, inc. Scream team training that screams is still additionally used.
There's a reason why there are monsters in children's closets—it's their job. Monsters, inc. Is the most successful scream-processing factory in the monster world, and there is no better scarer than james p. Sullivan. But when "sulley" accidentally lets a little human girl into monstropolis, life turns upside down for him and his buddy mike.

There are two reasons that i feel like i should write about monsters, inc. Today: a) monsters, inc. Is my favorite pixar movie b) it’s billy crystal’s birthday! and honestly, everything about this movie is perfect. From the beautiful score to the fact that the song “if i didn’t have you†was randy newman’s first oscar win, this movie deserves all of the attention it can get. That all being said, of course it is a disney / pixar movie and is packed full of life lessons.
With the $10 combo, $10 snowhitethanks, and $8 coupon, i'm at $17. 98. I did get shot down for the disneybd, because 'monsters inc' was not part of the promotion. No matter - i know i'm not as low as some, but i'm still thrilled with this deal!.
Posted by tim brayton posted on jun - 24 - 2013 0 comments blockbuster history: wouldn't have nothing if i didn't have you every week this summer, we'll be taking an historical tour of the hollywood blockbuster by examining an older film that is in some way a spiritual precursor to one of the weekend's wide releases. This week: pixar animation studios' love affair with franchising continues with their first-ever prequel, monsters university. In keeping with my quest to have a review of every single pixar film up on this blog, it seemed the ideal time to take a peek at that film's august precursor.
Theundeadcrow posted i personally didn't like monsters inc. It may have been my least favorite world. It was just a linear ugly factory. I was hoping we were gonna go door hopping to some interesting places but nope, just a boring factory. People complain about arendelle but at least it had some variation with that labyrinth plus the great music.
Monsters inc. Is an incredible animated movie (by pixar studios, 2001, and directed by pete doctor) about monsters working in a scare factory. Proudly, the scare factory – a pillar in the community – is a workplace in a monster world where monsters scare children. Through a high-tech system, doors are brought to the factory that, if activated, allows the monsters to enter the child’s room through the youngster’s closet. The scream produced by the child creates energy for the monster world, so that monsters can do everyday things, such as quickly turning on a light or vacuuming the carpet. However, this is not an easy job because children are extremely toxic to monsters (who tremble when a child is near), and are also becoming increasingly …show more content….

The idea for monsters, inc. Was conceived in a lunch in 1994 attended by john lasseter , pete docter , andrew stanton and joe ranft during the production of toy story. One of the ideas that came out of the brainstorming session was a film about monsters. "when we were making toy story", docter said, "everybody came up to me and said 'hey, i totally believed that my toys came to life when i left the room. ' so when disney asked us to do some more films, i wanted to tap into a childlike notion that was similar to that. I knew monsters were coming out of my closet when i was a kid. So i said, 'hey, let's do a film about monsters. '".
Please, no sequels!! i’ve really liked how pixar, unlike many other studios, has steered clear from sequels (with the exception of toy story 2). I like that pixar has created unique and original ideas for each of it’s movies. Each one is different, and each one is very successful! i’m upset that they are doing cars 2. I mean, i guess the reason why i enjoyed toy story 2 was because it was nice to see their first animated feature come back again. But please do not create sequels because the movie did well. That is what happened with dreamwork’s shrek, sony pictures’ spiderman and so many other movies these days. I hope this rumor is not true.

Eben ostby was the supervisor in charge of the modeling department. Gospel plot: the powerful emotion of love drives the story line of monsters inc. But it’s not a saccharine sweet love, it’s a deeper, heart satiating, other-worldly love. Grace is love coming at you that has nothing to do with you. Grace is being loved when you are unlovable. It is being loved when you are the opposite of lovable†(36). Boo loves sully. There are quite a few talented tattoo artists in the east bay. I've had work done by several of them. Talent and being a jerk seem to sometimes come together. I recently went into monsters ink to have a look because i had been thinking about getting a new piece for a while, and it is near my house. I talked to the guy at the counter, his name is jaime, cool guy, great attitude, all around positive vibe from the dude. They were getting ready to close but we went through a few ideas anyway. He sketched a few out (after closing) and i really liked what i saw. I asked him to change it like four times and he never even blinked. In fact he kept assuring me he didn't mind and wanted it done the way i wanted it. I was really pumped when he said he was willing to do it that night.

james p. "sulley" sullivan, the film's protagonist , is a large, furry blue monster with purple spots, voiced by john goodman. When he is first seen, sulley is the top scarer at monsters, inc. , responsible for generating the screams that provide power for the city of monstropolis along with his partner, mike wazowski. During the course of events, sulley accidentally allows a small girl, boo, to enter the monster world. He attempts to return her to her room, but to no avail. When her presence becomes public knowledge, he hides her in his home, eventually coming to realize that she is not as dangerous as he has been led to believe. Sulley soon becomes attached and protective of his young human friend, which he makes clear to mike. After sulley saves boo from randall's scream machine, waternoose orders randall to retrieve her and eliminate sulley. The chase runs through the factory and through an entire network of doors between both the monster world and the human world. At the end of this chase, randall is overpowered and thrown into a closet in a swamp, where he is mistaken for an alligator and beaten with a shovel. Sulley and mike promptly destroy the door, banishing randall as they were.
