The best movie posters excite us and peak our interest without telling us more than we should know going into a movie. This is an art form.
Do you have a favorite movie poster that you’ll never forget? well, we’ve rounded up the most effective, tantalizing and iconic movie posters ever.
Capture the classics of the silver screen and enjoy some of the most iconic characters, scenes and actors of the 20th century. Relive the memories of your first trip to the pictures, or add a vintage touch to your interior design. Movie posters have become works of art in their own right and you could own a piece of movie history with a vintage movie poster.
Famous movies often have iconic movie posters that are easily recognizable at a glance. We’ve collected text-less versions of 23 different posters to offer a closer look at the photos that are used to create them. These are the single images chosen to represent the movie to the public. Some are more retouched and manipulated than others.
Movies have given us art on the screen and framed movie art in the way of posters advertising the movie and its stars. For many, many years people have been collecting original posters and buying reproductions to decorate their homes or businesses. Some movie lover gifts ideas movie themed gift baskets ideas for a movie theater gift basket s are so iconic that they are more a part of american history than just a movie. Some of the movies historians would consider iconic are casablanca, gone with the wind, breakfast at tiffany’s, the godfather, and clockwork orange. Many movies starring john wayne and sean connery have produced some framed movie artwork that fans everywhere love. Movie art includes the movie, scenes from the movies, and actors and characters from the movie so; ideas are limitless.
Facebook twitter reddit pinterest email collecting merchandise from our favorite films has always been a hobby for youngsters and hardcore film enthusiasts. I remember collecting anything that had the image of spider-man after the second part in raimi’s trilogy came out. Posters constitute a major part of that memorabilia, and were the perfect wallpaper for the pre-21st century kids. Arnie’s ‘terminator’ , ford’s ‘indiana jones’ , stallone ‘s ‘rambo’, the ‘goonies’ or jamie lee curtis, they adorned the bedrooms with their much talked about presence. But unfortunately posters get limited to that, and only a few people take out time to appreciate their quality and preserve the art of poster-making. In a time when there was no social media, posters were the best way of advertising movies and production houses let no complacency creep in during the designing.
Ilm posters aren’t strictly necessary anymore. Films aren’t advertised in newspapers as much, only a handful of releases have the promotional budget for billboards and bus shelters, and trailers get far more traction. Yet they remain a constant – primarily because they’re eternally cool. Movie posters sometimes get it wrong, though. Photoshop fails occur left, right and centre, while a lack of imagination plagues the artwork for even the most successful of modern franchises.
Doaly is a designer and illustrator from the united kingdom. He describes himself as a designer, doodler, photographer, day dreamer, and part time superhero. His most work is a series of alternative movie posters which many on the internet (me included) think is way cooler than the actual movie posters. He uses no fancy 3d software or graphics but he gets the message of the story across anyway. I sure hope he gets a break and starts designing actual movie posters for hollywood. It would be a nice change to see minimalistic movie posters for a change.
Batman v superman poster
we put things with a new poster of a movie that has not even arrived yet! we chose this as our first of a leaf, as a step in a direction different from what we have seen coming from marvel in the last couple of years. Although there are two versions, we went with batman, because of its appearance of posters slightly colder than the man of steel. But superman is still represented, as their logo was given a slap in the face sulking ben affleck.
Best movie posters of all time, hopefully, the film can meet this aesthetic when it finally hits theaters next march.
Cinemablend cinemablend copy to clipboard as a life-long comic book and film geek with few artistic skills, i’ve always been a big advocate of fan art. It’s one thing to really enjoy something, but completely different for it to inspire a person to be creative and invent something of their own. For whatever reason, superhero movies tend to be a great source of this inspiration, artists from all around the globe illustrating their best ideas through posters and trailers, and the upcoming batman vs. Superman film from director zack snyder is proving no exception.
By benedict woodhead it’s undeniable that audiences were hyped up for batman v superman. That’s why this poster sticks out to us. It captures the anticipation we felt in the months leading up to the movie’s release, when we were imagining the pure, unadulterated excellence bvs was inevitably going to be. Turns out, awesomeness wasn’t actually all that inevitable and we had to return to print to remember why we love batman/superman team-ups so much. Plus the poster recognizes a core truth about the two characters. Superman is who you see in action, while batman’s presence should only be hinted at. If the movie had followed that rule and turned batman into an offscreen menace, we probably would’ve ended up with a much better film. Link.
Have you ever taken a truly awesome photo and thought about how good it would look as a movie poster? well, redditor 'your_post_as_a_movie' has been turning people's images into cool movie posters for the past two years and the results are incredible! focusing on subjects as diverse as family pets, beautiful landscapes and everything else in between, the posters are incredibly popular and look just like the real thing! check them out!.
Movie posters are art and, unfortunately, the forgotten one. In the early years of cinema history, they were used just like advertising material. Displayed in theaters only, movie posters had the same function as a menu in a restaurant: what feast can i enjoy this evening? nowadays, movie posters play a big role in cinema memorabilia collection. They have lost the “informative†tone to wear a more artistic and decorative dress. We want to change it with this post.
A. M. P. A. S. Anthony goldschmidt, a graphic designer who founded intralink film graphic design and was instrumental in some of the most iconic movie posters of the last forty years, has died. He was 71. Goldschmidt died this past tuesday in los angeles of liver cancer, according to industry colleagues. Goldschmidt received an award for distinction from his undergraduate alma mater, washington university, in 2012. That same year, he worked on the design for the 84th academy awards poster, featuring classic movie posters from “gone with the wind,†“casablanca,†“giant,†“the sound of music,†“the godfather,†“driving miss daisy,†“forrest gump,†and “gladiator,†along with the oscar statuette itself.
(this article is part of our best of the decade series. )while movie posters seem to get worse every year, there’s still artwork released every year to promote movies that blows us away. The best ones are illustrated, but sometimes photoshop jobs can turn out pretty well, too. And now that we’ve reached the end of the decade, there’s no better time to look back at some of the best movie posters released over the years. Below, i’ve rounded up what i think are the 20 best movie posters of the decade.
Comment for a long time, there has been a real sameness to all of the superhero movie posters released by marvel, dc and other studios, with mandates followed to ensure no one is offended and everyone is enticed to spend big bucks on the latest blockbuster. But that doesn't mean every superhero movie poster has to suck. And in recent years, some filmmakers have had a lot of fun establishing unique alternative posters that might not find their way into multiplexes. But they have certainly found their way into collector's hearts.
The 2010s were a fantastic time for movies. The budgets started to get bigger and bigger, with interest in movies rising even further than before, resulting in several movies grossing over one billion dollars over the course of the decade. While movies were undoubtedly receiving bigger production budgets, they were also receiving bigger marketing budgets, resulting in some incredible movie posters that have become iconic over the years.
Sony movie posters are dotted about everywhere. We see them in cinemas, when cinemas are actually open (sobs heavily), but we also see them on billboards, social media platforms, webpage ads, in train stations, and on the side of buses - you name it. However, because few people are inclined to stare intently at a poster for more than a few moments (something that's become especially true over the last couple of years, with poster designs becoming more generic and less compelling) we often miss the small details and references that many of these one-sheets include.
Witnessing the endless parade of floating heads and nonsensical taglines can often make you forget that throughout film history, hollywood has treated us to a parade of iconic, wall-deserving posters that would make even the pokiest of flats come instantly alive. To celebrate the gods of poster design, we've assembled a list of the 40 coolest movie posters ever.
The initial poster of borat shows him visiting america with his suitcase and the american flag, however, the second poster which is the remake is one of the coolest movie posters. With the pink background and green shape over the top, it might look weird, but it depicts borat wearing a mankini in the usa on a beach. Beautiful and minimalist are great ways to describe it.

As with most genres, any attempt to define the spy movie falls apart pretty quickly. Maybe more quickly than most, given that the term can encompass films featuring everything from evil supervillains plotting to take over the world with futuristic weapons to grounded-in-fact stories of those who trade secrets behind enemy lines. (at least westerns take place in the old west. Except those that don’t. See, genre definitions are hard!) for this list of the best spy movies ever made, vulture opted for a big-tent approach in an attempt to create a selection that captured the full breadth of the spy film. If it features espionage of some form as a key element, in other words, it’s a spy movie for our purposes.
If pulp fiction was the movie that turned cinema on its axis during the ’90s, then it’s poster was no less revelatory. Think of some of the more less-than-creative posters made for films during that time (silent fall, the specialist, timecop, the war, etc. ) these posters like the movies they were made for, were pretty much, well, forgettable. The poster for pulp fiction however pretty much screamed “this is the cool movie of the year and you’re going to have a great time watching it!†with it’s image of a noir-ish leading lady (an unrecognizable uma thurman sporting a godard-ian anna karina inspired short brunette bob) while lying on a bed with nothing but a pack of red camel cigarettes, a gun and a tawdry pulp magazine, we wonder who might be in that seedy motel room with her and well, there’s a story right there. How many posters in recent memory can you think of that actually contains a story in them? this is the sheer brilliance of pulp fiction’s poster. Designed by james verdesot, every detail is perfect from the simulated paper tears along the sides to the 10¢ price circle in the left corner. Also bold: here you had a ’90s movie with bruce willis in it, who was a pretty big movie star at that point, and he’s not even on the poster (for his next movie though, die hard with a vengeance, his face would be the only thing on it). And just like the movie, the poster did inspire many copycats (with 1996’s 2 days in the valley being one of the better ones) but of course, nothing will feel as cool and original.
If you’ve gone to the movies within the past seven decades, chances are bill gold had something to do with getting you there. A designer who created the posters for some of the best-known films in history, mr. Gold struck that tricky balance between art and commerce, creating works that won design-world plaudits and enticed audiences to buy tickets.
While the year had its fair share of bad movie posters, 2019 showcased more ingenuity than mediocrity on its print campaigns. The posters for this year exhibited a lot of creativity, originality and novelty on crafting effective campaigns for their movies. Related: the 10 best star wars posters, ranked the best movie posters for the year range from tributes of early posters of old hollywood to the symbolic representations of their movies. And some simply displayed the most iconic parts of their films.
Source: movies. Com back in march we featured a cool set of posters for the indiana jones trilogy using small versions of artifacts and items from the film to make up one of the more prominent props in the story. Now the artist, french graphic designer maxime pecourt is back with a small batch of similar posters, this time for some other iconic films from the past including batman, e. T. The extra terrestrial, aladdin, and a couple more. You'll find reese's pieces, abu's hat and of course a batmobile. Posters like this are always fun to dissect with all the items for the hardcore fans of these films to feast their eyes upon. See the posters below!.
Movies have captured the hearts and imaginations of people since the beginning of film. As the ultimate vehicle for storytelling, movies have the ability to transport us to another place and time. Great movies allow us to enter into other worlds, becoming lost in the characters for a few hours. We are granted access to feelings and emotions that we rarely get to experience in our day-to-day lives. Films provide us with such a wide variety of experiences, from high adventure to more subtle revelations about the human condition.

Movies are a multi-million dollar product, so movie poster designers are sometimes thought of as being in the upper echelon of the design world. But these awful posters just go to prove that there’s no such thing—there are ugly designs everywhere and in every industry, no matter how much money is put into the marketing. Even top-tier designers have bad days once in a while. Nobody can be perfect all the time.

On 09/10/2015 movie posters are often considered just as important as the iconic movie they represent. Typography and imagery play important roles in what makes a movie poster iconic, in some cases more iconic than the movie itself. Classic movie posters are storytellers in themselves and usually the first thing that a viewer will see. Here are the top 10 most iconic movie posters of all time, in no particular order.
Did you see the poster for eli roth’s new movie that got banned in italy? it’s unclear exactly why the italians considered it so far over the line, but then again, movie posters are banned for a wide variety of reasons that aren’t exactly clear. From including too much nipple to manipulating stuffed animals into getting busy to scary the living hell out of children, there are a lot of things movie posters can do to catch the ire of the motion picture association of america. So, let’s take a fond look back. Let’s look at the 10 greatest banned movie posters of all-time.
It’s hard to be a film critic and not spend a lot of time staring at movie posters, whether full size one-sheets at the theater or smaller reproductions on dvd cases. I’m worse: i also have movie posters from a few of my favorite films on the wall too: lawrence of arabia, blade runner and the adventures of buckaroo banzai.
If a picture is worth a thousand words, a movie poster is worth a thousand pictures. It’s responsible for encapsulating the tone, story, and visual style of a film in one large image—and in doing so, it can become just as iconic and influential as the movie it’s advertising. The movie poster has come a long way from its humble, hand-drawn beginnings in the days of silent film, evolving into a veritable art form during the golden age of cinema and the early blockbuster era. But you wouldn’t know that from a stroll down the hallways of your local multiplex. While some modern poster companies like mondo and movie distributors like a24 dedicate the necessary time and imagination to creating a unique poster, the vast majority of movie marketing consultants today just lazily slap together pictures of the stars in photoshop, color it teal and orange , and call it a day.
Actually, when you think about it you will realize that whether we consider movies art or not, we tend to be fascinated by every aspect of movies like luxury bedroom ideas from celebrity bedrooms. Right from the times of past where there was no color in movies and the fabulous examples of black and white photography , movies have held a fascination for all of us. The fact is many people consider collecting and displaying movie posters a form of art and pursue this with a lot of passion. When you look at the most famous movie posters of all time, then you realize why this is so.
The best movie posters of all time are instantly recognizable for their iconic imagery. No, they’re not the same as the best movies of all time —these aren’t judged on their comedic timing, insane action-movie chase scenes, dramatic plot twists or heart-wrenching love stories. These picks—from cheesy blockbuster summer movies to old classics that you’ve never seen—were chosen for one single badass image, whether it’s a shot of the title character or an iconic moment from the film. Share on twitter (opens in a new tab) share on linkedin (opens in a new tab) share on email (opens in a new tab) this article originally appeared on den of geek uk. Below are a selection of what i feel to be truly great foreign movie posters of uk or us films. Some of them were officially sanctioned and used in the marketing campaign, others independently released by distributors or artists, while some are basically one-off homemade efforts which somehow escaped into the wild. All are works of art offering a unique and different slant on the film in question, going far beyond the usual “it stars this person, and features them doing that, and visiting here. †some are iconic scenes twisted beyond all recognition, others moments which usually go unnoticed. While i am in no way an art critic, i’ve tried to give some context to what you’re seeing.
Master of the title sequence and much-imitated graphic designer saul bass is almost a household name when it comes to his movie posters, which capture that sexy and mysterious mad men era with lots of color-blocked orange, yellow, and red. The hypnotizing spiral of *vertigo’*s poster is nothing short of iconic.
The most effective movie posters are iconic, presenting the themes in the film without resorting to flat out saying what it’s about. They use imagery, whether a close-up of a character or item that’s a major plot point, or a simple graphic, to establish the film’s plot. Combined with an eye-grabbing design, this can be an incredibly effective way to gain attention and create interest at once.
Drew struzan created pretty much all of the most iconic posters of the '70s and '80s. 'coming to america', 'indiana jones' and 'star wars', 'back to the future' - he was the go-to guy for steven spielberg and a few others. If you get a chance, have a look out for the documentary on his life and work - 'the man behind the poster'. If you're any kind of a movie geek, it's worth a watch.
Some movie posters have become known (in the design and graphics community at least) to be appreciated and revered as much as the movies they advertise themselves. Iconic standalone pieces of art in their own right, these kind of posters have all had some part to play in cementing the iconic status of the corresponding film.
Sometimes, one sheet is all it takes to pique your interest in a film: a dazzling color scheme, a clever concept, an arresting image. Film posters are more than just marketing materials – they’re undeniably an artform in themselves, with the world’s greatest illustrators and designers (including the likes of drew struzan, saul bass, and bill gold who passed away earlier in 2018 ) producing works that have sometimes become as iconic as the movies they’re promoting. Empire has gone back to the drawing board to find the 50 greatest movie posters to ever grace cinemas, bedrooms, and billboards everywhere.
Share on facebook screencrush has compiled several lists of the greatest movie posters in the past. We’ve done pieces on great action posters, great horror posters, great sci-fi posters, and great disaster posters. But we’ve never done comedy. Until now. The fact that all those other genres came first can be pinned to a single reason: i’ve always believed that comedies don’t have very good posters. As opposed to more serious, more experimental, more artful genres and styles, comedy posters tend to run towards the generic, the garish, and the repetitious: a couple closeups of the stars faces, some flashes of color, a comical tagline, that’s about it. But in researching this topic, i found there were more exceptions to that rule than i previously thought; so many, in fact, that i expanded the list from 25 to 50 great comedy posters.
