A member of british royalty, he was hailed as the world's greatest detective and forerunner for the modern butei.

Inspector thomas brackenreid is a great fan of sherlock holmes. When arthur conan doyle visits toronto to lecture on spiritualism, brackenreid tells doyle about a visit he made to an uncle's home in the scottish highlands. He suggested a new sherlock story entitled "hell hounds of the highlands".

5. Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows (2011)

Sherlock holmes is the titular main protagonist of 2009 film sherlock holmes and its 2011 sequel sherlock holmes: a game of shadows. He is a genius and joking consulting private detective and frequently solves cases alongside his best friend and partner dr. John watson. watson In the first film, his talents was challenged by lord henry blackwood who claimed that his evil plans was something that the eccentric detective cannot solve, let alone to stop it. In spite of the odds, holmes revealed that he can prove otherwise by both comprehending the very witchcraft  blackwood capable of and even exposed him as fraud.

Every sherlock holmes game is burdened with a question of “how?” how do you adapt the world’s greatest detective for the interactive medium of video games? how do you give players the power fantasy of embodying the man with all the answers, without diminishing a crucial sense of challenge? how do you test a player’s investigative skills, without it feeling like they’re just following sherlock’s lead?.

Sherlock holmes: has almost a superpower-like ability to deduce problems; incredibly observant; arrogant; has somewhat of a god complex; consumed with solving puzzles; when horrible things happen, it's an exciting game for him to figure out; at times cold, calculating, and machiavellian; peculiar and disregards social expectations (at times he has target practice on the walls of his room); carries a massive and bold presence -- like superman or batman, but at times prone to unexpected and unintended physical comedy and exuberant outbursts when excited.

6. Holmes & Watson (2018)

The novel's protagonist. Holmes is the famed 221b baker street detective with a keen eye, hawked nose, and the trademark hat and pipe. Holmes is observation and intuition personified, and though he takes a bit of a back seat to watson in this story, we always feel his presence. It takes his legendary powers to decipher the mystifying threads of the case.

The next day, holmes and watson inspect the apartment at no. 221b, baker street, and are so pleased with (full context) watson’s curiosity about holmes deepens the longer they live together. He describes holmes’ appearance as striking, as he is (full context) watson begins to spend his time trying to determine what holmes does. " pilot ": after breaking out of hemdale recovery center the day of his release, holmes moves into a brownstone owned by his father. He contacts an old associate from scotland yard , captain tommy gregson of the new york police department, and gets a job as a consulting detective for the nypd. His father hires joan watson to be his sober companion for six weeks, which he claims he has no need for and suggests she should take the six weeks as a holiday instead. After a fight, watson says she'll request another sober companion for him, but she later decides to stay on.

Holmes is first introduced sitting and smoking a pipe in his armchair on the stormy night of october 1, 1889. When knocking on the door is heard, watson opens it to reveal dr. James mortimer and sir henry baskerville. He invites them in, and introduces them to holmes. Holmes is familiar with sir henry's family, and addresses the issue at hand: sir henry's uncle sir charles has died, from what many believe to be a heart attack, as he had a weak heart. Sir henry intends to claim his inheritance at baskerville hall , a mansion out on the haunted moorlands in dartmoor.

In the film, holmes appears as the "neighbor" to basil of baker street. He is the world's greatest human detective (basil being the world's greatest mouse detective). While basil, dawson , and olivia flaversham look for toby, they observe holmes with watson (depicted as silhouettes against the wall). The two depart the scene to continue their own investigations, allowing basil and the company to "borrow" toby in the meantime.

In 1893, author sir arthur conan doyle shoved detective sherlock holmes off a cliff. The cliff was fictionally located in switzerland, over the reichenbach falls. But conan doyle did the dirty work from his home in london where he wrote. “it is with a heavy heart that i take up my pen to write these the last words in which i shall ever record the singular gifts by which my friend mr sherlock holmes was distinguished,” narrator dr john watson says in conan doyle’s story the final problem, which appeared in the strand magazine in december 1893.

Holmes is well-read, musically gifted and speaks at least two european languages. "are you well up in your jean paul?" holmes assumes that watson will understand his reference to the german writer jean paul richter. Although watson does have some knowledge of the writer's work, the reader may not. The effect of this is that holmes appears even more intellectually distant and superior.

7. Sherlock Holmes 3 (2021)

Sherlock holmes is a middle aged man from london, working in a chemical lab in a hospital. He is about six feet tall with a lean body (l. 29). His sharp, piercing eyes (l. 30), thin hawk- like nose (l. 31), and his prominent chin (l. 33), give his expression an air of alterness and decision (l. ?).

Welcome to sherlock holmes is a fictional detective of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, who first appeared in publication in 1887. He was devised by british author and physician sir arthur conan doyle. A brilliant london-based detective, holmes is famous for his prowess at using logic and astute observation to solve cases.

A reinterpretation of sherlock holmes’ last great story, involving his arch nemesis, professor moriarty. The king of bohemia is blackmailed, and the opera singer, irene adler, may be one of the suspects. Somehow, moriarty and his henchman, one of whom is adler’s husband another of whom is her maid, are behind this, and holmes must walk right into his trap in order to solve his final mystery.

In the series, sherlock holmes is the famous detective brought back from the past and into the 22nd century after being brought back to life with the help of inspector lestrade. The most striking feature of this great detective is his ability to focus on the task at hand; he becomes completely self-absorbed by solving crimes with his brain, not his physical strength. If he makes a mistake, he will admit he's wrong, and he will ask for help if he needs to. He wears his signature victorian cape and deerstalker hat, although he gave up his pipe because smoking is forbidden in the 22nd century. Holmes is very traditional: he loves music and will always hold a door for a lady, no matter how politically incorrect it may be. Sherlock holmes is not just the world's greatest detective - he is a true renaissance man.

Abled in the adaptation : while usually not considered a disability, sherlock holmes has a cocaine habit in the original books. Some adaptations do away with any drug references. The 21st century setting update sherlock has holmes as being on a nicotine patch as a mythology gag to both his drug addiction and his smoking habit, and also has him attempting to kick both heroin and cigarettes. Elementary , which is also set in the 2010s, goes the full mile and has joan start as sherlock's sober companion in order to help him kick his heroin addiction. Miss sherlock goes the other way - chocolate is her vice instead.

25 july 2010 | by ninjacow225285 – see all my reviews i have been an avid fan of sherlock holmes from a very young age, and my first reaction upon hearing of a modern tv remake was "oh bugger, they are so going to screw this up". However, i am glad to report that, unlike so many other tv adaptations and especially ones that modernise, i found it witty, clever and above all, entertaining. It was extremely reverential of its considerable pedigree and included a large number of coded references and callbacks for the more avid fan, e. G. The use of scratches around a persons mobile phone charger port to indicate a drunkard rather than a pocket watches winding keyhole. I imagine many were irked by this and as i can see from the ratings many did not care for it at all, but for me it was simply sublime, and well deserving of a 10 out of 10.

William sherlock scott holmes (known simply as sherlock holmes) is the titular protagonist of the bbc crime drama series sherlock, a modernized take on the classic series of detective novels by arthur conan doyle, and a manga adaptation with the same name. He is the world's only consulting detective, a profession he created for himself and the younger brother of mycroft holmes. He is based in london and often consulted by greg lestrade of new scotland yard, often taking his best friend and former flatmate, john watson, on cases. In the fourth series, sherlock is revealed to have a younger sister, named eurus holmes and became the godfather of john's daughter, rosie.

12. The Return of Sherlock Holmes (1986–1988)

In london , an unseen crook begins masterminding his "perfect plot on paper" which starts with a robbery taking place and three cats steal a pink diamond. Three constables spot them and give chase, but the cats escape to the rooftops and glide off into the night, giving the stolen diamond to a mysterious horseman. The next day dr. Watson rushes to 221b in baker street and informs his colleague sherlock holmes of the robbery. Holmes calls jerry mouse to bring him a copy of the times. Jerry heads out to buy it, bumping into tom cat on the way, who has something for holmes. Jerry sends a pile of bricks on tom and tom gives chase. Jerry returns to holmes' flat and hands him the paper or what was let of it. Reading a letter tom had given to them, for the night, holmes and watson decide to go to the bruce nigel theatre and see a lady named red. Holmes is told that she is being blackmailed and holmes suggests the real perpetrator might be professor moriarty. Holmes deduces that the star of punjab, a diamond that is sensitive to the light of a solar eclipse which was to happen the following day, is to be stolen by the mastermind of the blackmail. At the punjab embassy , spike and tyke are assigned to guard the star of punjab. Spike begins to teach tyke how to be a good dog guard, but the three cats steal the diamond while spike is not looking. The three cats then step on a small button and retreat. They climb out through a hole that leads to the tunnel and escape before holmes, tom and jerry arrive. Upon arriving, jerry tricks tom into stepping into a broken board and the trio check the tunnel. Finding sawdust, they retreat once hearing tyke sounding the alarm. Holmes and watson leave to find the shop from where the button came from, while tom and jerry are left to take red to holmes' flat.

Sherlock holmes has been the subject of more screen adaptations than any other literary character, with 75 different actors donning the deerstalker since 1900. But, as benedict cumberbatch prepares to return to 221b baker street for a sherlock christmas special, the greatest mystery remains: what is the source of the detective’s enduring appeal?.

13. Mr. Holmes (2015)

Absurd phobia : apparently isn’t too fond of riding horses. As he puts it “they’re dangerous at both ends and crafty in the middle. ”adaptational wimp : unexpectedly, despite the film's notorious increase in action scenes over most adaptations. While the movie's version gets into a lot more fights and makes more gratuitous use of martial arts, he lacks the original's prodigious strength and often needs to use his cunning as much as his skill to stay just ahead of his opponents. Conan doyle's holmes was a skilled enough boxer and martial artist to never need to stoop to combat pragmatism , preferring good old fisticuffs , and was able to beat an extremely skilled boxer in a fair fight. This holmes does beat a boxer easily, even taunting him before he gets serious, but he only seems to be as strong as a man of his age, size and weight who engages in irregular exercise.

22 may 1984 (1984-05-22) a missing key helps holmes prove colonel barclay's wife innocent after he is found dead. " the adventure of the speckled band " 29 may 1984 (1984-05-29) helen stoner seeks help from holmes when her stepfather moves her into the room in which her sister mysteriously died. " the adventure of the blue carbuncle ".

In the adventure of the speckled band , holmes is observant. Of course, this applies to him in all of the stories, but in this particular one, in the very beginning, he uses his powers of observation to determine that his young lady visitor has come by train. He remarks that she has just arrived by train, and she asks if he knows her. He explains:.

Action girl : she's quite a formidable woman, not above kicking in doors or taking down suspects herself, and handy with an ionizer besides. Badass in distress : in spite of her being possibly the more physically formidable and definitely the more aggressive of the two, she does occasionally end up needing to be saved by holmes.

Prediction: holmes' intelligence allows him to plan attacks and deduce (often correctly) exactly how a scuffle will play out. He can even predict exactly how events took place, though sometimes his adversaries can jumble up the clues to misdirect him. This rarely works on him. Master tactician/strategist: his advanced intellect allows him to perform various acts and set up traps in places, based on his accurate predictions. This involves jamming up machine guns and setting off trick bombs. He even carefully timed the throw and rescue of lady watson. Holmes's strategical appitude can make him extremely unpredictable, as he displayed the willingness to go at great costs to carry out any complex and dangerous plan he had thought upon and he even seemed to always think many steps ahead and form backup plans in case his original plan failed, as evidenced when he simply and calmly blinded moriaty after realising a fist fight would be futile, catching him completely off guard.

Voiced by jason gray-stanford. This series portrays holmes as a younger man than one sees in most screen adaptations. Within the story, this is said to be necessary so that the rejuvenated holmes can more effectively assume the physical demands of his pursuit of moriarty; it's also likely that the age of the intended audience was a factor in the decision.

The rumors surrounding one project keep getting louder and louder as the release date approaches. The producers of the upcoming “sherlock holmes 3” starring robert downey jr. And jude law will reportedly confirm that holmes and watson are gay. Downey jr. , in fact, has fed the rumor mill for years, with sound bites like this one about the relationship between holmes and watson,.

15. The Private Life of Sherlock Holmes (1970)

History mycroft holmes is first introduced when he kidnaps john and offers to pay him to spy on sherlock out of brotherly concern. He is sherlock's older brother and engages in sibling rivalry with sherlock. He is concerned about his brother as well, worrying for his well-being. Mycroft is frequently mocked by sherlock for "putting on weight". He occupies a "minor position in the british government"; however, as with many holmes-based works, it is heavily hinted that he has a much bigger role than he claims. He is driven around in a private car with his personal assistant who goes by the name of "anthea". Mycroft, like his literary counterpart, is also very skilled at deduction, even correcting sherlock on occasion, as well as lacking enthusiasm for "legwork". Sherlock claims mycroft's childhood in a nutshell was summed up when he said "i'll be mother". Mycroft apparently doesn't mind bending minor rules, since he gave sherlock a cigarette in "a scandal in belgravia", saying "we're in a morgue, there's only so much damage you can do. " in mycroft's opinion, sherlock has "the mind of philosopher or scientist, yet he elects to be a detective". However, he considers this an improvement, since as a child, sherlock initially wanted to be a pirate.

Yagashira kiyotaka, nicknamed holmes, works at his family's antique store as an appraiser. With his penetrative deductive skills, he's sought after to unravel mysteries, even if he's reluctant to do so. He'd rather spend his days appraising antiques and hunting down the one creating counterfeit pieces. Aoi, while acting as his appraiser assistant, also becomes holmes' precious companion in the same way that watson is to sherlock. It's a parallel storyline with less intense undertones and a slice of life feel , but with all the powers of deduction given to the sherlock holmes legacy.

Summary a year has passed since sherlock holmes became a parent. But there is still much to be lived. Life will change, people will be hurt, he will move on. But in order to get to where he wants to be, sherlock and his child must walk the long way first.

Data first became aware of holmes when riker compared picard to a private eye, prompting the android to study holmes' cases. ( tng : " lonely among us ") he was introduced to the works of arthur conan doyle by captain picard. ( tng : " data's day ") when describing dixon hill to data, geordi la forge described hill as a 20th century sherlock holmes. ( tng : " the big goodbye ").

Of course also has a particularly high iq which allows him to pull off many of his feats of ingenuity and which gives him his thirst for knowledge and experimentation. Often highly intelligent individuals can feel easily bored by everyday life. Sherlock holmes may use crime solving as a way to cope with his boredom, and this may also be one of the motivations that drives him to experiment with narcotics.

Sherlock holmes is considered one of london's finest detectives and has solved several crimes during his life, even the ones who were thought to be impossible. However, things change when professor moriarty finds out about an ancient book that allows him to free many monsters as holmes now needs to find ways to hunt them down before the world gets overrun by monsters.

College a comparison of the characterization of sherlock holmes in the novel the scarlett letter, the movie sherlock holmes and the show sherlock sherlock holmes is the most prominent creation of sir arthur conan doyle. Since holmes’s first fictional appearance in 1887, he has become the model of the amateur private detective. Although sherlock holmes is not one of the first private detectives who came into the fiction world, the fame he attained after his literary origin dwarfed his fictional ancestors and started his way to eternity. Together with his friend dr. Watson, they have frequently appeared in all sorts of literature, movies and tv series. This article will contrast the characterization of sherlock holmes in the scarlett letter novel, the movie sherlock holmes (robert downey jr) and the show sherlock (benedict cumberbatch).

17. Sherlock Holmes (2010 Video)

Do you like this video? play sound sherlock holmes is a fictional detective created by scottish author and physician sir arthur conan doyle. A london-based "consulting detective," holmes is notable for his astute logical reasoning, his ability to adopt almost any disguise, and his use of forensic science skills to solve difficult cases.

23. Sherlock Holmes and the Secret Weapon (1942)

Not long after holmes had unexpected meetings with leaders of temple of the four orders (secret magical fraternity with considerable political influence) where they asked his help to stop blackwood. Blackwood seemingly cursed water that sir thomas (one of the temple of the four order's leaders and blackwood's father) used to take a bath in his bathtub, causing him to lose consciousness and drown, allowing blackwood to take his ring. An investigation was held on the murder site on the next day. Holmes notices that the bathtub was drained by the constable out of respect, and feels that they might have unknowingly disposed of a possible clue from the water. After the last constable leaves the room, sherlock begins tapping on the walls, and finally finds a latch that allows him to open up a hidden door. Behind the door is a small space with magic tools/symbols/etc. Holmes rifles through the items and picks up two skulls and a book of spells, which he slips into his coat pocket, believing that it might be helpful someday. As the constables come back into the room, he asks them if they've found the powder. They say yes and he leaves.

berserk button : do not harm irene or watson or mary, just don't. Bunny ears lawyer crazy jealous guy crazy prepared cursed with awesome : sherlock's eponymous sherlock scan apparently has no figurative off-switch as shown in the restaurant scene in the first movie, and is explicitly called a curse by him late into the second.

I love this anime ever since i got it from my local library. I found it by accident while looking for a different video (which seemed to not actually be there) and so picked it up. At first, i thought this was going to be serious like all the other sherlock homes creations out there but this is like a children’s version of the story. It feels strange to see professor moriarty actually taking part in the crimes instead of just having his henchmen doing it. It pulls away a lot from the normal story line with the difference that each show can pretty much be standing on its own and you don’t need much to understand them. It’s like a crime of the week and i don’t remember if there was any that actually went 2 shows long.

John hamish watson (martin freeman) is sherlock's flatmate and colleague. He is often a foil to sherlock in both appearance and personality. Unlike sherlock, john is short with blond hair. He is kind, caring, and 'human' compared to sherlock's cold, calculating ways. He gets on better with the police and takes care of practical matters at their flat, apparently doing most of the shopping. He also gets a locum job at nearby general practice to help pay the bills, and starts dating sarah, another doctor he meets working there.

The ace : like his victorian literary counterpart, sherlock has numerous skills, including deduction, chemistry, music and combat, with a highly regarded intellect, many of his skills contributing to his skills as a consulting detective. Unfortunately, he also has anti-social tendencies which stem from a low opinion of other people, a flaw he works to overcome over the corse of the series.

Uncut versions of the previous episodes may be available through netflix and other places. The uncut dvds for the u. S. Came out february 11, 2014. Find here a complete episode guide to sherlock by season (the british call them series): first , second and third : the third finished showing in britain january 12 and started in the u. S. As well, we will be doing some comparisons between the original stories and these episodes.

Sherlock is brave, and extremely intelligent. He has his own degree of personal cunning and a slightly suave demeanour. He is focused, vengeful and rather egotistical and strong-minded. He is also devilishly enigmatic and seemed to be clever enough to surpass james moriarty, who was himself mentally inordinately agile. He cares deeply about john watson, enough to challenge moriarty about it. He also thought he was more devious than moriarty.

Irene was portrayed by lara pulver irene adler (lara pulver) is featured in "a scandal in belgravia" as a dominatrix, more commonly referred to as "the woman", who provides "recreational scolding" for anyone willing to pay for it. She takes pictures of her job as "protection" to make sure her clients don't do anything unfavorable to her. Irene is just as brilliant as sherlock, being about to outwit him repeatedly; however, she also ends up falling in love with him, which proves to be her downfall. She sends sherlock a series of flirtatious texts, repeatedly requesting to "have dinner" with him. Having taken a picture of the information for "bond air", she was targeted by american agents, who were working with the british government to trick terrorists into thinking that their bomb would blow up a plane and take the lives of hundreds. She was also sought out by mycroft for incriminating photos of herself and one of her clients. She contacted moriarty about the bond air plan, being given advice on how to use it to her advantage. She successfully duped sherlock into revealing what bond air was about, texting the answer to moriarty, who informed the terrorists.
