In drawing crazy patterns , i spotlight at least five scenes/moments from within comic book stories that fit under a specific theme (basically, stuff that happens frequently in comics). Note that these lists are inherently not exhaustive. They are a list of five examples (occasionally i'll be nice and toss in a sixth). So no instance is "missing" if it is not listed. It's just not one of the five examples that i chose.

Despite variations in the arrangement of early lists of the new testament books, matthew always comes first. Perhaps this is why one famous scholar called matthew "the most important book ever written. " all of the gospels share certain traits, and all of them have unique features as well. A distinctive feature of matthew is its arrangement into alternating sections of narrative and discourse. There are five discourse units, inviting comparison with the pentateuch that starts the old testament. Each discourse answers a specific question: how are citizens of christ's kingdom to live? how are traveling disciples to conduct themselves? what are the parables that jesus taught? how should christians conduct themselves in the church? how will it all end? the intervening narrative sections tell the story of christ's life, death, and resurrection.

Movie vs. Book: The Return of the King

29 august 2002 | by dragoonkain – see all my reviews i barely remember seeing this movie as a wee tot when it was aired on tv. I couldn't have been more than 3, but i remember the impression it left on me. I blame this cartoon for making me into the fantasy buff that i am today. The hobbit was one of my first novels because of this little tv special, and it nearly brings a tear to my eye every time i see it. Perhaps because it brings back long forgotten memories of my youth, when i used to watch it on video over and over. Or perhaps because it is indeed a very charming little movie. For fans of the new movies, it may seem a little too dumbed down for their tastes. And indeed the story is dumbed down. My two favorite characters from the book, legolas and gimli, were cut out completely, yet i still like this adaptation despite the low budget and simplification of the story. It is definitely a kid friendly adaptation, maybe a little too kid friendly, but it was a rankin/bass cartoon to made for tv so it is to be expected. I don't know if i would still like it if i were seeing it for the first time today, since it does cut out most of the story. So i guess this isn't exactly a fair review, but then again, is any review fair? all our opinions are greatly affected by the context in which we observe any work of art. When i first saw this movie, i was a kid engrossed in the fantasy world before me. So, in a way, i'm glad i don't know how much i would like this movie if i were seeing it for the first time today.

One of the scenes cut from the theatrical release but included here, the resolution of the saruman storyline, generated a lot of publicity when the movie opened, as actor christopher lee complained in the press about losing his only appearance. It's an excellent scene, one jackson calls "pure tolkien," and provides better context for pippin to find the wizard's palantir in the water, but it's not critical to the film. In fact, "valuable but not critical" might sum up the rotk extended edition. It's evident that jackson made the right cuts for the theatrical run, but the extra material provides depth and ties up a number of loose ends, and for those sorry to see the trilogy end (and who isn't?) it's a welcome chance to spend another hour in middle-earth. Some choice moments are gandalf's (ian mckellen) confrontation with the witch king (we find out what happened to the wizard's staff), the chilling mouth of sauron at the gates of mordor, and frodo (elijah wood) and sam (sean astin) being mistaken for orc soldiers. We get to see more of éowyn (miranda otto), both with aragorn and on the battlefield, even fighting the hideously deformed orc lieutenant, gothmog. We also see her in one of the most anticipated new scenes, the houses of healing after the battle of the pelennor fields. It doesn't present aragorn (viggo mortensen) as a savior as the book did, but it shows the initial meeting between éowyn and faramir (david wenham), a relationship that received only a meaningful glance in the theatrical cut.

It is very similar to the netflix series stranger things. It is confirmed in the book stranger things: worlds turned upside down that the duffer brothers took inspiration from 'it', along with the books firestarter , the dead zone , carrie , the shining and the body.

The Return of the King by J. R. R. Tolkien

Educational value this is one of the best contemporary examples of what scholar joseph campbell calls the monomyth or hero's journey (another is the star wars series). Tolkien is also greatly admired for his "world building": he paints an unbelievably complete picture of middle earth with maps, dense background history of each race (elves, dwarves, different kingdoms of humans, hobbits), poems and songs, and even whole languages and scripts to pen them in.

Best book I ever read.

I won't review the films becasue if you are thinking of buying this box set then you obviously liked them ( or whoever you are thinking of buyinh for did ). As for this box set, i loved the original theatrical releases but the the extended versions are so much better with all of the extended / additional scenes being finished to cinema quality and seamlessly slotted in, i truly wish more films were released this way ( a prime candidate being the star wars prequels or the original alien ). I know a lot of people have moaned about the fact that the film itself is split between 2 disks but come on people how hard is it to get up and change a disk, you'll probably need a quick pit stop by then anyway! and for the sake of maintaining the sound quality, well worth it. As for the extras, i usually only watch the alternate/deleted/extended scenes ( which are already part of the film in this package ) but there are so many in this box set that there is almost certainly something here for everyone and certainly far more than was available on the original theatrical dvd releases and the menu tree in the enclosed booklet is a greeat help and beautifully done.

With so many people working from home and practicing social distancing in 2020, we could all use plenty of distractions. It's hard to go wrong with a good stephen king book. King has built a career writing spooky page-turners that frequently clock in at over 1000 pages. Just one of his books can sustain most readers for days. His entire back catalog could take months or more.

1 min read this was an excellent end to a fantastic trilogy of books, the slow pace in the majority of the two towers was out-classed by the constant and imaginative storytelling of this final chaper. I was amazed both by how much of this story was successfully brought across to the screen in peter jackson's movies, and by how much more story there was to tell in this book. I've become completely enamoured of tolkien's poetic use of language - his own or otherwise - and must make time to sit and read the silmarillion.

Book is perfect for my needs; a basic/layman level introduction to revelation to work through with my wife in our daily bible study together, interpreting revelation from an amillennial/eclectist/inaugurated eschatology perspective. The author’s tone is very kind to other viewpoints and humble with respect to his own conclusions. Incidentally, you can find this book as an electronic book in html format at the author’s frame/poythress website; you can also find the author’s revelation class lecture presentations on the website too, and find his audio course on the westminster theological seminary website under courses archive. They complement the book very well, if you want to enrich your reading experience (although it’s optional as the book stands alone very well too). The book is extremely closely aligned, although predating book start by approx. One year, with greg beale’s approach in his greek commentary on revelation (for which you don’t need greek to use well, and which is the exhaustive amill standard). Vern poythress acknowledges the commentary in his introduction.
