Of all the movies mary blair lent her art style to, alice in wonderland is the mary blairiest. Her work is everywhere here. Book purists were furious at scrapping john tenniel’s iconic newspaper illustrations in favor of a bright, bold modernist style, but i personally think the backgrounds and character designs are one of the highlights of the movie.
